Used Floor Buying Tips
Identify your budget. Buyers always say that their budget is "as little as possible", but that’s not a dollar amount and identifying an upper limit price will help narrow down possible inventories. It sounds simple, but If you don’t identify a budget, how will you know when you’ve met it?
The size of your floor has a big impact on the price. Floors that are 8000sf and larger cost less per square foot than smaller inventories, and for a couple of reasons. Fewer buyers drive prices down... and freight costs - on a per square foot basis - are less expensive for larger shipments.
The floor’s appearance is important and there’s a significant price difference between an eye-catching floor that needs to impress new visitors and a practice floor that provides safety and performance but's not as nice looking. Color's a preference and lines can be added, but existing lines might be impossible to remove.
Price is where everything comes together and it’s important to keep the dialogue open. If you’ve found a floor that’s the right size, etc., but the price is too high - communicate. Counter-offers are good and a seller's firm price may soften as storage costs mount & situations change.
